; ; file: 0ReadMe_TheNameWogwoe.txt ; FEW 1/29/2007 ; I would like to assure people from cultures other than the "White Anglo Saxon" group that when naming this company "WogWoe Productions" that I had no idea that the word "Wog" might be offensive to some people. It has been mentioned to me on more than one occasion that the english word "Wog" has one meaning "any undesireable immigrant". My only exposure to this word in the California, American culture was perhaps when as a child I heard the actor Peter 0'Toole comment to his captain something about "..those bloody wargs (sp)!.." in the movie Lawrence of Arabia. Subsequent to naming the company I did some study and discovered that in Australia there even was a TV series comedy about a "Wog". In Greece the acronym WOG stands for "Women Of Greece". Some people understand WOG to stand for Wise Old Guy. The word "Wog" may be offensive to people of Islamic or Middle Eastern culture. I do not intend to offend but I still like the company name as is. The name actually came to me after listening to an audio recording made at an Idiot's Club campfire at Snag Lake, CA. One member was heard to snarl "Log Roll" after dropping a large log meant for the fire. I mis-heard this and interpreted it as the word "WogWoe!" whose sound I liked and adopted as the name for my hobby recording company. Fred E. Wahl
